25 Ways to Give Thanks at Your Wedding

25 Ways to Give Thanks at Your Wedding

Here are some fun ways to give thanks before, during, and after your big day.

Before the Wedding…

1. Keep a gratitude journal. Unlike a regular diary, which requires daily upkeep, jot down quick thoughts about your planning “highs” (e.g. what you felt like when you bought your dress) whenever you have the time. Also, use it to store fun mementos (like your gown consultant’s business card).

2. Spend quality time with your maid of honor and best man. Before my friend’s wedding (where I was a MOH), we had a beauty-prep day where we got massages and mani-pedis. We capped it off with lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. I loved getting quality time with her before wedding chaos took over.

On Your Wedding Day…

Thank your future spouse for marrying you and making you the luckiest woman alive.

3. Exchange letters on the morning of the wedding. Sure, “meet you down the aisle” texts are charming, but there’s nothing quite like putting pen to paper. I know my fiancé Jason will smile when he reads my chicken scratch and “I love you to the moon and back” salutation. Capture each other’s reaction on film by reading the letters out loud for your videographer.

4. Unveil a fun wedding surprise for your groom. Is ESPN the soundtrack of your home? Give a nod to his sports obsession by having guests sign a jersey as your “guest book.” Did he spend his childhood (and beyond) secretly wishing he was Spiderman? We’re smitten with this new take on the groom’s cake!

5. Savor a quiet moment together. Soak in your surroundings—the stunning reception space that took months to plan, friends and family busting a move on the dance floor, that giddy look on your husband’s face that says, “We finally did it.”

On Your Wedding Day…

Thank Mom and Dad for being the best parents in the world.

6. Wipe away their tears of joy. Personalize vintage handkerchiefs with embroidered messages for Mom, Dad, your mother-in-law, father-in-law, or any other close family members.

7. Dedicate your wedding to them. At the ceremony, ask the officiant if you could read a poem in honor of your family. Here’s one example of wording we love, via weddings.usabride.com: “We would like to dedicate this ceremony to our parents. They have taught us our values, and shown us how to laugh, love and appreciate all that life has to offer. Their generosity, support, and love is unending.”

Or, you can surprise them at the reception, instead. Imagine the look on their faces when they flip over this drink coaster…

8. Honor their marriage by incorporating their wedding-day photos. Whether it’s one small photo tucked into your armoire or a dedicated corner at the sign-in table, they’ll appreciate the sentimental touch.

9. Carry a piece of them down the aisle with you. I plan on using a sleeve from Mom’s wedding dress as my bouquet holder (like the one pictured at right), but it would also be sweet to hang miniature childhood photos from your flowers. Instead of doing a bouquet toss, give a speech at the reception dedicating your bouquet to the most important woman in your life—Mom.

10. Give them one last hug before you’re pronounced husband-and-wife. Take the time to stop for one final display of affection. Just remind them that the officiant is waiting if they refuse to let go.

13. Spend one-on-one time with your flower girl and ring bearer. Give them a bucket filled with crayons and activities to keep them busy at the reception, let them play with your dress, and say “cheese” in the front of the camera for their very own portrait.

15. Dedicate a special song to your ‘maids and groomsmen. Don’t require them to practice a dance beforehand, unless you’re Zumba buddies or were in a dance troupe back in high school! Just have your DJ or band play a song from your past and watch unscripted hilarity ensue.

On Your Wedding Day…

Thank your vendors for making your wedding vision come to life.

16. Tell them exactly what they did that you loved. After all of those emails, calls, brainstorming sessions, and, yes, the times that they saved your behind, express how much you appreciate them with a heartfelt card. Pay it forward by writing a positive review online, if you were happy with their service.

17. Give vendors a shout-out in your toast. If you plan on saying a few words to welcome guests to the wedding reception, mention all of the vendors who helped make your night (or day) a success.

On Your Wedding Day…

Thank your wedding guests for celebrating with you.

18. Create a heartfelt guest book alternative. Your wedding day is the one time when you’re surrounded by everyone who loves you, all in the same room. What better way to bottle up all of their well wishes than by preserving and displaying them in your home afterwards?

19. Incorporate “thanks” as part of your wedding décor. Quick, simple, and wow-worthy.

After the Wedding…

21. Have fun with your thank-you cards.

A custom illustration makes signing all of those notes that much more bearable (and, dare we say it, fun).

22. Pay it forward and give back to your community with charitable favors. Give guests a choice and let them decide between a couple of different causes so they can pick the one that’s closest to their hearts.

23. Donate your dress. You’ll never wear it again, right? After the big day, hand it—and other accessories—to organisations which will resell it and use the proceeds to help a woman with cancer.

24. Donate flowers. Hospices and nursing homes that could use some cheer.

25. Donate food. Arrange to have any extra food from your reception “rescued” to feed hungry people in your area.

BONUS TIP: Keep the spirit of gratitude going in your marriage.

Leave secret messages for your spouse to find. At dinner, take a cue from The Queen of Giving, Oprah Winfrey, and tell them about three blessings that happened to you on that day. “When you focus on what you have, your abundance only increases,” the talk show host has said.

The Top Eco-Friendly Wedding Trends for 2015

The Top Eco-Friendly Wedding Trends for 2015

It has been more than six years since the Green Bride Guide book was published, and green weddings have continued to grow in popularity. Today, more than 70% of brides are including eco-friendly elements in their events, and the number of green options has multiplied accordingly. It is easier than ever to find vendors offering local and organic food, sustainable flowers, and rings crafted from ethical gemstones and recycled metals. As green weddings have moved mainstream, what defines a green wedding has changed. “Green” is no longer a wedding theme but an approach to planning — and we are seeing green weddings in every style and color.

That said, like with weddings in general, there are always a number of eco-specific wedding trends, and next year’s are going to be particularly lovely.

1. BOHO GLAM WEDDINGS

In 2015, the earthy bride will shine with casual elegance. Boho glam style offers a fun mix of high and low décor: local wildflowers in vintage vases, vintage and upcycled rhinestone and feather hair accessories with a 1920s twist, and flowing cotton and peace silk gowns. Green brides will top this look using eco-friendly makeup to make smoky eyes and rosy cheeks.

2. OVERSIZED EDIBLE FAVORS

Sweet treats are always popular at weddings, but next year, the candy station will be replaced by oversized treats. For green brides, that means large natural lollipops, photo marshmallows, and piles of large organic cookies with intricate patterns in powdered sugar or organic frosting. Be on the lookout for sweets complex recipes an adult twists, like these Blackberry Merlot Mulled Wine Lollipops from Groovy Baker.

3. “OUTDOORS IN” DETAILS

Many eco-friendly brides choose to have their weddings outside, but the number of indoor weddings with an outdoor theme is growing. Look for large branches down the aisle, string lights made from real flowers around the dance floor, and tablescapes of moss, succulents, and other lush plantings.

4. REAL WOOD STATIONERY

For rustic weddings, nothing beats the feel of a wood save-the-date, invitation, or thank you card. Now, there are a wide range of eco-friendly options, including everything from thin Forest Stewardship Council (FSC-certified) veneer to thick Colorado Beetle Kill pine. Some vendors allow for complete customization, while others offer classic designs that range from quaint owls to elegant script.

5. COLORFUL PAPER DÉCOR

Paper is one of the easiest — and least expensive — things to green. Next year, we will see colorful poms, streamers, and even confetti made from recycled paper. The nice thing for brides is that these items no longer have to be in solid colors. Several companies now make recycled paper décor in fun patterns and even metallics.

6. DRIED FLORAL CROWNS

Beautiful hair accessories are always in style, but gone are the days of tucking a simple rose into your updo. Flower headbands have morphed into flower halos, creating unforgettable natural looks. For brides who want to capture the glamour of real flowers without the weight or hassle, dried flowers crowns offer the perfect solution. Some, like lavender crowns are extremely fragrant — offering an added bonus for eco-minded brides.

7. WEDDINGS FOR A CAUSE

Perhaps it is the influence of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but using your wedding as a vehicle to support a good cause is gaining popularity. Next year, we will see more charity gift registries, charity wedding favors, and honeymoons with volunteer components.

8. MORE RENTALS

Brides are wising up to ways to get around the high-ticket price of a perfect wedding — and rentals are great options. From gowns and jewelry to vases for the tables, brides are looking to borrow, rent, or buy and resell more than ever. They are getting their money’s worth while decreasing their impact on the planet. More vendors are getting into the rental business as well, as they realize that offering antique chairs or votive holders is a quick way to make a little extra cash in the recovering economy.

10 Trends We’re Loving Right Now

10 Trends We’re Loving Right Now

1. Covered Shoulders

With cooler weather approaching, this trend couldn’t be more perfectly timed! From cap to 3/4 length sleeves and boleros, covered shoulders are one of the biggest bridal trends.

2. Styled Grooms

Great style is no longer reserved for the brides. When it comes to wedding day fashion, more and more grooms are opting for well tailored suits in a variety of textures, fabrics, and colors. Why should the ladies have all the fun, right? This season, I’ve seen grooms in navy, deep purple, hunter green, and gray with black lapels.

3. Designer Kicks

More and more brides are going with designer heels to escort them down the aisle for their “I dos.”

4. Signature Cocktails

Have a favorite mixer? Incorporate that as part of your signature cocktail during cocktail hour or ask the bar to stock up and offer your specialty concoction throughout the night.

5. Small Bites

Always popular for the cocktail hour, many couples are starting to skip the formal sit down dinner. Offering a variety of butler-passed appetizers, family style dishes, and buffet stations for the entire reception keeps the energy high all night.

6. Custom Touches

Monogramed napkins add that special touch, and custom embroidered handkerchiefs make a great pre-ceremony parent gift.

7. Welcome Bags for Out of Town Guests

After dealing with the hustle and bustle of airport travel, your guests will usually arrive at their hotels a little tired and, very often, hungry. There’s no better way to thank them for coming to celebrate with you than to have custom welcome bags waiting when they check in.

8. Bold Color

From jewel tones to bright reds and oranges, big pops of bright color are in!

9. Not Your Grandma’s Wedding Cake

Everything from deconstructed cakes to adventurously flavored fillings are in. Salted caramel and chili-spiked chocolate are all the rage this fall.

10. Modern Yet Classic Elegance

While rustic and DIY ruled the past few years, I’m seeing a return to a more classic elegance. Gold rimmed china, blush-tone florals, white-gloved waiters, big bands, and ever flowing Champagne fountains are all back in style and in high demand.

Lucinda Park Palm Beach Wedding

Lucinda Park Palm Beach is the most picturesque spot for your special Wedding day.

Lucinda Park provides a beautiful backdrop for Weddings with breathtaking views of the water and surrounding areas of Mackerel Beach and Ku-ring-gai National Park.

It is on the Pittwater side of Palm Beach, located just 45 minutes north of the CBD and is renowned for it’s natural beauty, sparkling beaches, beautiful headlands, tranquil waterways and sandstone sea cliffs.  Because of this natural beauty it is an ideal location to hold a Wedding Ceremony.

Elly chose a simple setup for her Wedding Ceremony using our White Folding Chairs & White Carpet.  She supplied tin buckets with Baby’s Breath and we added Shepherd’s Hooks with Mason Jars at the front row.

Danielle DuBois delivered a very personal Ceremony and Nat Bromhead from Pittwater Photography was there to capture the day.

Fun Must-Haves for a Beach Wedding

Dreaming of getting married on the beach?

It’s easy to see why — there are few things more relaxing than hearing the crashing waves as you walk down the aisle. Check out some fun must-haves for a beach wedding.

A Shoe Check
Encourage your guests to kick off their shoes for your ceremony by providing a table for them to leave their shoes.  You can also provide some cheap thongs for guests who don’t want to go completely barefoot.  And make it easy for guests to clean off their sandy feet after the “I dos” by setting up a station with brushes or small towels.

Foot Jewellery

Toys for the Kids

Keeping kids entertained is even easier during a beach wedding; just provide them with some sand toys!

Beach Balls

Instead of having your guests toss petals as you make your way down the aisle as a married couple, embrace the beach theme by having them toss mini beach balls instead.

Pretty Parasols
Provide shade for your guests with colorful umbrellas that match your color palette. Bonus: They’ll look adorable in your bridal party photos.

Ocean Details
You don’t have to embrace an “under the sea” theme, but let the sea inspire at least a few of your wedding details, from your aisle décor to your escort cards to your cake and more.

When one thinks of a Newport Wedding scenes of wind and sand fill your mind.  Grace & David tied the knot on October 18th at a lovely Garden location in Newport, Dearin Reserve.

The Reserve is located on the Pittwater side of Newport, away from the bustling beach traffic and beach goers.

Amanda & Anthony’s Balmoral Reserve Wedding

Amanda & Anthony tied the knot on September 19th 2014 in a Balmoral Reserve Wedding.

A beautiful Sydney Spring Wedding with our Garden Serenity Package.  Our Single White Arch with lace draping, Americana Chairs and Sisal Aisle Runner were complimented by the some of the Bride’s own additions.  Jars on the chairs with Hessian and lace details and fresh flowers and Ivory Lanterns down the aisle.

Amanda chose our new Luxury Drink Station to refresh their guests .  Two Drink Dispensers filled with ice cold water with a choice of lemon or orange slices to add some flavour.

Balmoral Reserve is a lovely location and when hired, as a bonus, the Balmoral Rotunda is included as a wet weather option.  Bookings and permit info can be found on the Mosman Council website.

There are several restaurants close by for a spectacular waterfront Reception.

Bathers’ Pavilion

Bather’s Pavilion, a historic building sensitively renovated to contemporary comfort. There are 2 venues to suit your style ~ The Terrace has a view over Balmoral Beach towards Sydney Heads ~ ideal for a cocktail style Wedding.  The Room has walls covered with 1200 sheets of silver to capture the feel of the water through the unique, original, box windows.

Public Dining Room

The Public Dining Room offers uninterrupted views across Middle Harbour towards North Head and Manly and encompasses the very best of Sydney’s iconic beach culture.  The space offers a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere both indoors and under the dappled light of the spectacular Moreton Bay Fig Tree on the adjoining Terrace.

Amanda Knapton conducted a very personal Ceremony, David Kang and his crew on video and Betty from Enchanted Wedding was the photographer.
